Perpetua isn't mean to anyone else she just tends to get rather quiet and somewhat shy when there are other people around, especially, and is content to just stay hidden underneath Newt's coat, floating there quietly while he finishes whatever it is he's doing. She seems to have a desire to learn how to read and becomes quite fond of any book that she gets her hands on much to Newt's joy. (As such, his new cottage has quite the library already.)
Despite the offer to stay at the cottage, Perpetua seemed inclined to stay in Newt's traveling party despite not really having a desire to battle. Newt has a feeling that she may just want every opportunity to learn that's available to her and he's quite okay with that.
