The Bowtruckle is immensely difficult to spot, being a hand-sized, insect eating, tree dweller with long sharp fingers (two on each hand), brown eyes, and a general appearance of a flat-faced little stickman made of bark and twigs, which serves well as camouflage in its natural habitat.
The Bowtruckle can be found in western England, southern Germany, and certain Scandinavian forests. A Bowtruckle serves as a tree guardian for its home tree, which is usually a tree whose wood is of wand quality (such as a Wiggentree). The twig-like fingers are well adapted for digging out wood lice in trees, and can also be used as a weapon against a foe when aimed at the eyes. It is generally a peaceful creature, but will become violent if anything threatens its tree, or even to itself. To take leaves or wood from a Bowtruckle's tree, one would have to offer it wood lice or fairy eggs as a distraction.
A group of Bowtruckles is called a branch.

It seems that Pickett has decided to forgive me for the tactic I used during negotiations with Gnarlak. I felt absolutely horrible having to do such a thing but we did not have many options. Thankfully Pickett seems to understand that now and we've made amends. Of course this means the others in the branch are back to being a bit snippy with him but it's something we'll have to work on over time.

It was a plumed, two-legged serpentine-bodied creature with wings that reached up to fifteen feet in height. The Occamy was extremely aggressive to anyone who approached it, and lived off of insects, rats, birds, and occasionally monkeys. It was extremely protective of its eggs, which were made of the most pure and soft silver. It was found in the Far East and India.
The Occamy was known to be choranaptyxic, meaning it grew or shrank in order to fit available space.
It was a known rare possible corporeal form of the Patronus Charm.

The Occamy are doing very well and growing at the pace I was hoping for. All five still seem to accept me as their mother for the time being which makes handling them much easier. When I'm not here, Dougal seems to have taken up the role of surrogate parent and they seem to have accepted him as well.

Nifflers were rodent-like creatures with a long snout similar to that of a platypus and a coat of black, fluffy fur. Native to Britain, they lived in burrows as deep as twenty feet below ground, and produced six to eight young in a single litter.
Nifflers had a pouch on their bellies which held far more than at first seemed possible, like the effects of a Undetectable Extension Charm on a container.
Nifflers were gentle by nature and could even be affectionate towards their owners. However, they could destroy belongings looking for sparkly objects, and for that reason it was inadvisable to keep them as a house pet.
Edited 2017-11-16 01:32 (UTC)
Sometimes it can be near impossible to predict what the Niffler is going to get into or what trouble he may cause. I've had to ask some of the others to keep a close eye on him when I'm not around as I don't want anything to happen. Even then, each time I come down to check on everyone there seems to be more and more things lining his burrow.
....I seem to have found myself with several young Nifflers now and I have no idea how I'm going to handle this situation.

The Mooncalf is a shy creature that only comes out of its burrow during a full moon. The Mooncalf has smooth, pale grey skin, and four spindly legs that end in large flat webbed feet. The Mooncalf also has a very long neck and bulging blue eyes that sit on the top of its head.
Once the Mooncalf is in the moonlight, it performs complicated dance moves while standing on its hind legs. It is believed that this is part of the Mooncalf mating ritual, but also has the side effect of creating geometric patterns in wheat fields that confuse Muggles.
Mooncalf dung, if harvested before the sun rises, will make magical plants grow fast and strong.

The Billywig's wings are attached to the top of its head, and the wings rotate extremely fast, spinning the Billywig so that it can fly.
The Billywig also has a long, thin stinger at the bottom of its body. Anyone stung by a Billywig will suffer giddiness, followed by levitation, and this is what gives the Billywig its rating of XXX. This is also why young Australian wizards and witches try to catch Billywigs and provoke them into stinging them. Too many stings, however, can cause the victim to hover uncontrollably for days on end. Sometimes, the victim will suffer from a severe allergic reaction, and permanent floating may ensue.

The Graphorn was large and hump-backed, with grayish-purple skin tougher than that of dragons. It could repel most spells, had two golden horns, and walked on large four-thumbed feet. It's mouth was made of tentacle-like appendages, that were used to grab food and put it in it's mouth. It also used these to show affection. It was said to resemble a sabre-tooth tiger.
Its horn was a highly prized potion ingredient, used in potions like the Antidote to Uncommon Poisons. Graphorns were sometimes used as mounts by Mountain Trolls, but the Graphorn did not like it - it was more common to see mountain trolls covered in scars from a Graphorn.

I am so pleased with the progress I've made with the Graphorns. The parents continue to become more affectionate as they settle and both their offspring are developing well. I couldn't be happier though I worry that I may not be able to find a suitable habitat outside of my case before the two young Graphorns have fully matured. Ideally I would very much like to find a spot of land well out of the reach of humans and wizards alike but it will take some time to find something appropriate. Until that day, I will do what I can to care for them here and perhaps the parents will continue to breed..as chaotic as that might end up.

It resembled a rhinoceros with a roundish body. It was a powerful creature, with a thick hide capable of repelling most curses and charms, a single long horn, and a thick tail. They were treated with great caution and respect by African wizards and witches. Male Erumpents produced musk.
The Erumpent did not attack unless provoked, but the results were usually fatal. The horn could pierce skin and metal, and the horn contained a deadly fluid that caused whatever was injected with it to explode. There were rare occasions when the injected object or being did not explode, as in the case of Wilfred Elphick, first wizard to have been gored by an Erumpent. As his Chocolate Frog Card depicts him in bandages, but very much alive, it can be assumed that he survived the attack and did not explode.
Erumpent numbers were not large, because male Erumpents frequently blew themselves up during mating season. Erumpents only gave birth to one calf at a time.
Erumpent horns, tails, and Exploding Fluid were all widely used in potions, although they were listed as Class B Tradeable Materials.
An erumpent was one rare possible corporeal form of the Patronus Charm.
Female Erumpents could reach five times the size of a non-magical hippopotamus, though it was considered medium-sized in Magizooology.

It would seem that this lovely lady is quite fond of Jacob.
It makes me wish Jacob could have come with me. Perhaps I should have offered to take him away with his memories in tact in the first place.

The Demiguise is a peaceful, herbivorous creature that can make itself invisible and tell the future which makes it very hard to catch. It is found in the Far East, but only wizards and witches trained in their capture can even see them. It resembles an ape with large, black eyes and long, silky hair.
Demiguise pelts are highly sought after as the hair can be woven into Invisibility cloaks. Cloaks made from their hair eventually turn opaque, losing their invisibility effects as time passes.
Demiguises have precognitive sight so that the only way to catch them is to do something completely unpredictable.

Dougal has been a very helpful individual even if he does like to wander about almost as much as the Niffler does. He's taken to caring for the Occamy when I'm not around and they have, in turn, accepted him as a surrogate parent. It's amazing to see creatures of such different species interacting and caring for one another. I really am fortunate that Dougal turned out to be such a personable Demiguise and not as shy as many of the others I've encountered.

An Obscurus was the manifestation of the repressed energy of a magical child (known as an Obscurial). Described as a "dark" and "parasitic" force, an Obscurus was created when the child in question was forced to repress their talent through physical or psychological abuse. This energy could manifest itself as a separate entity that can erupt in violent, destructive fury.
The Obscurus could be largely invisible or appear as a flying, incorporeal, and amorphous entity with the appearance of a black, fluid-like cloud, or a violent torrent of darkness, sometimes with a reddish core. Some described it as a "dark wind" or "dark mass" with "shining white eyes". Its appearance could be oleaginous, or "rich in, covered with, or producing oil, or oily or greasy". There have also been instances when a face briefly emerges from the shadowy entity, or a white glowing image of the host appears inside of it.
The size and might of an Obscurus depended on the innate power of its host; the more powerful an Obscurial, the more powerful their Obscurus. When an Obscurial reached their emotional and mental breaking point, they could lose control completely and physically transform into an Obscurus. Its size and mass at specific times may also have be connected to the level of negative emotions that triggered it at that instance, as well as the current mental state of its host.

I wish I knew more than I did. I wish I could find a way to remove the Obscurus without...I wish I could save the children these beings possess.
I wish it didn't have to end in tragedy almost every time.
Added later:
I hope that wherever Credence is, he's safe and the Obscurus isn't causing him more harm than it already was. Perhaps he'll be able to continue living normally; as normal as one can, that is.

The Murtlap is a marine beast resembling a rat with a growth on its back resembling a sea anemone, found on the coastal areas of Britain.
The favoured prey of the Murtlap are crustaceans, though they will also go for the feet of any human foolish enough to step on them.
The growth off the back of a Murtlap; the tentacles are visible
The growth on the Murtlap's back may be pickled and eaten to improve one's resistance to jinxes, although eating an excess of pickled murtlap may cause one to grow unsightly purple ear hair. Murtlap Essence is a home remedy for cuts and abrasions.

The Doxy is covered in coarse black hair, and has an additional set of arms and legs. Doxies have shiny beetle-like wings, and a double row of sharp venomous teeth. If bitten, a wizard or witch should take an antidote immediately. Doxies bury their eggs underground, and Doxy Queens can lay up to five-hundred at once. The eggs generally hatch in two to three weeks.
Preferring cold climates, the Doxy is found throughout Europe and North America.
Doxys are considered pests. They can infest houses, taking up residence in the draperies. Removing them requires a good supply of Doxycide. Alternatively, they can be dispatched with a simple Knockback Jinx, as doxies are particularly vulnerable to it, excluding the queens, which are more resistant

The Diricawl is a plump, fluffy-feathered and flightless bird. It has the ability to disappear and reappear elsewhere as a means of escaping danger. Muggles are aware of the existence of the Diricawl as a dodo (a large, extinct, flightless bird). However, since Muggles are not aware of its ability to vanish at will, they believe that they have hunted the dodo to extinction. The International Confederation of Wizards has not seen fit to reveal that the animal still exists, since it seems to have raised Muggle awareness of the consequences in slaying their fellow creatures indiscriminately.

The Fwooper is a magical African bird with brightly-coloured feathers, which can include orange, pink, lime green and yellow. Listening to the Fwooper's high pitched, twittering song will drive the listener insane, so each bird must be sold with a Silencing Charm placed on it. The Charm has to be reinforced monthly, and a licence is required to own one of the birds.
Fwooper feathers are used as quills, and they lay patterned eggs.

The Hippocampus is a beast with the head and forequarters of a horse, and the tail and hindquarters of a giant fish, making it somewhat similar in appearance to an over-sized seahorse. Although it is generally found in the Mediterranean, a blue roan specimen was caught by Merpeople off the coast of Scotland in 1949 and domesticated.
Hippocampus lay large, semi-transparent eggs through which the young hippocampus, known as a Tadfoal, can be seen.

Kappas feed on the blood of humans, strangling anyone unlucky enough to wade into their ponds or rivers.
One can protect, and appease a Kappa by throwing a cucumber inscribed with that person's name; however, if they can trick it into bowing, the water in its head will spill out, weakening it.
They live in shallow water, mainly in Japan.
The Kappa resembles a scale-covered monkey with webbed hands and a water-filled depression atop its head. The water in this hollow is the source of the creature's strength.

The Nundu is a large East African beast that resembles a leopard. It moves silently, despite its "gigantic" size, and is considered by some to be the most dangerous creature alive. The breath of the Nundu is toxic and filled with disease so potent that it can wipe out entire villages of people. The Nundu is extremely hard to subdue, and has never been defeated by less than around one hundred wizards working together.

The Thunderbird is a large, avian creature native to North America, and most commonly found in Arizona in the southwestern United States. A close relative of the Phoenix, the Thunderbird can create storms as it flies and is highly sensitive to danger.
The Thunderbird is described as having a head that is "similar to that of an eagle"; or, in the wizarding world, "similar to that of a Hippogriff". They possess multiple and powerful wings, with Frank the thunderbird shown having six wings in total. Thunderbird feathers shimmer with cloud-like patterns. The Thunderbird is known to change colours as it summons storms, its iridescent feathers shifting from various shades of gold, to electrifying blue, to grey and silver, to white, and even to deep navy.
Thunderbirds also sense danger and creates storms as it flies.

It's a bit strange not having Frank around anymore. His presence was one I had grown quite use to. I haven't had much of a chance to do anything with his old enclosure but I think I may leave it for now. We aren't running out space or anything of the sort so it will be fine as it is for now. Perhaps some of the others will take a liking to it.

The Runespoor is a three-headed snake native to the African country of Burkina Faso. Runespoors are commonly six to seven feet long, with orange and black stripes. Since they are very easy to spot, the Burkina Faso Ministry of Magic has had to make several forests Unplottable for the Runespoor's use.
The Runespoor is a possible corporeal form of the Patronus Charm.
According to writings from Parselmouths, each of the Runespoor's heads serves a different function. The left head (from the perspective of someone facing the snake) is the planner; it decides where the Runespoor is to go and what it is to do next. The middle head is the dreamer (it is common for a Runespoor to remain stationary for days lost in glorious visions and imaginations), and the right head is the critic; it evaluates the efforts of the left and middle heads with a continuous irritable hissing, and its fangs are highly venomous. It is common to see Runespoors with the right head missing, as the other two heads often band together to bite it off when it criticises them too much. Because of this, the Runespoor rarely lives to a great age.
The eggs that bear a Runespoor's young are produced through the creature's mouth, and the Runespoor is the only magical beast known to produce eggs in such a manner. The eggs are very valuable in making potions that stimulate mental agility, and have flourished on the black market for several centuries.

I swear these Runespoor are worse than young children at times. I had to put a cone on one of the three younger heads as they wouldn't stop bothering the others. Until they can stop biting the other two it will have to stay in place. Of course they aren't very pleased with it but it's not meant to be a pleasurable experience. They need to understand that I won't tolerate behavior like that.
Thankfully the larger trio is far easier to deal with and they all seem to get along quite well.

The Swooping Evil is a blue-and-green winged magical creature. It looks like a cross between a reptile and an extremely large butterfly. When it is not flying with its spiked wings, the Swooping Evil shrinks into a green spiny cocoon.
It can be quite dangerous, as it is an encephalophage — it feeds on people's brains - and its skin has the ability to deflect at least some spells.
It secretes venom that, when properly diluted, can be used to erase bad memories
Edited 2017-11-16 01:16 (UTC)
I feel as though I've made great progress with the Swooping Evil since it ended up in my care. There haven't been near as many attempts to eat my brains and it seems to understand that I'm merely trying to care for it whenever I visit. (As well as trying to learn how to use it's venom to help others get rid of bad memories though, I have to admit, I think I've been doing well with that as it worked wonderfully during Frank's rainstorm.)

A Grindylow is a small, horned, pale-green water demon and a Dark creature.
Aggressive towards witches, wizards and muggles alike, the Grindylow has only ever been tamed by merpeople; the half-fish water dwellers who sometimes keep them as pets.
Grindylows survive, for the most part, on fish, algae, and small sea creatures; however, occasionally they will eat humans (it is for this reason that they are classified as dark creatures).

A Clabbert is an arboreal creature that resembles a cross between a monkey and a frog. Its smooth skin is mottled green, and it has short horns and a wide grinning mouth full of razor sharp teeth. Its long arms and webbed hands and feet allow it to move gracefully through the trees. On the Clabbert's forehead is a large pustule which flashes red when the Clabbert senses danger. It feeds on small lizards and birds.
The Clabbert is generally found in the southern states of America, but can now be found worldwide. American wizards and witches used to keep Clabberts to give them early warning about approaching Muggles. The International Confederation of Wizards were forced to introduce fines to stop this. Despite looking nice at night, a tree full of glowing Clabbert pustules caused curious muggle neighbours to wonder why the Wizards still had their Christmas lights up in June.

The Giant Dung Beetle is a large insect. It is mostly unknown how it is different from its non-magical cousin. However, it is significantly larger and can use the three large horns on its head to carry balls of dung instead of rolling them, an action which it can still perform.

The marmite was a moderate-sized squid-like magical creature. Described as a "cross between a dust mite and squid," it had a transparent, bioluminescent body and long trailing tentacles. These tentacles could reach up to ten feet in young specimens, and presumably became even longer in adults.
Young marmites were apparently unable to feed themselves and had to be bottlefed when kept in captivity.

Moogles are characterized by their small wings, usually pink or white fur, and a pom-pom on their heads. Moogles are mild-tempered and enjoy eating vines and Kupo Nuts.
Moogles' "pom pom" is a red ball of fur on a thin, wiry antenna that springs from their heads, which they are sensitive about being touched. A moogle's wings are commonly dark, Gothic, or bat-like design, as to juxtapose their otherwise harmless appearance and bubbly nature. Moogles resemble small mammals, ranging from rodents to felines or marsupials.

Flavius Pokeby Hufflepuff was the Moogle companion assigned to me upon my arrival in Vaikuntha. He is quite young, at least that's my guess given the way he acts in comparison to some of the other moogles we've encountered, but he is extremely determined to assist me in my ventures across the continent and I could not ask for a better assistant in this world.
It is often valued by humans for companionship and for its ability to hunt vermin. There are more than seventy cat breeds recognized by various cat registries.

Pines and Arlert came home with me after Flavius and I attended the Festival of Lights which was a rather grand celebration in a curious country that opened its borders to the rest of the world for the first time in..quite a while from what I understand. There were hundreds of cats living in this particular city that I ventured into and I have to admit, I was tempted to bring more of them along with me but in the end these two seemed most content to continue traveling with me in the end.
Their personalities remind me quite a bit of Ford Pines and Armin Arlert, whom I met in the previous world I lived on. They were..dear friends of mine and I hope they are both doing well...
