[After his earlier conversation with Jean, Armin has been reaching out to people. Like he had told Jean if they wanted to figure out what was going on here, if something was going on here, it was important to have more information. Five people suffering from nightmares could be chalked up to a coincidence. Not a likely one, but still. They all were prone to nightmares, after all. But if more people were suffering from this, especially people who weren't known for having frequent nightmares, the chance that it was a coincidence grew smaller and smaller. And if something was going on, it was important to figure out if it had anything to do with their stay in Fuchsia --so far all the people Armin knew were suffering from nightmares had been in Fuchsia-- or if it was another cause altogether. Mr Newt hadn't stayed in Fuchsia as long as they had, but he had still been there.
Plus, nothing wrong with making sure everybody was all right.
Which is why Armin is calling Newt. He looks a bit pale and tired himself, but there is also something steely in the faint frown on his face. It's his thinking face, the face he always wears when puzzling over a strategy or trying to get to the bottom of something. Newt has mostly seen him be the nerd, but there is a strategist in the boy too.]
Mr Newt, I hope I'm not disturbing you, but do you have a moment? There is something I'd like to ask, if you don't mind.
[Newt had been having strange dreams, he wouldn't deny that, but to call them nightmares would be a stretch. Whatever game the Pokemon responsible were trying to play, it wasn't working on Newt and the Drowzee that had been lurking about their campsite on Mt. Mortar had given up after a few days of nothing.
There just wasn't much that seemed to phase Newt, even in nightmares.
A curious look crosses his face when he sees that look on Armin's, recognizing it as the look one wears when challenged by something.]
No, no, there's nothing to disturb. Just chatting with Cornelius. [Said Oranguru peers at the 'gear curiously before waving at Armin.] What can I help you with?
[Armin returns Cornelius' wave, but it is rather distracting. His mind is fully focused on the nightmare problem and on wondering whether or not Newt might be suffering from them too.]
I was wondering. How have you been doing since you left Fuchsia? Has anything unusual been happening?
[That makes-- actually, he's almost starting to lose count of how many people he now knows are dealing with nightmares right now. It really doesn't seem like it can be anything coincidental anymore.]
[Armin touches his chin in thought, trying to think back.]
We spent several days on the water as we journeyed to Cinnabar Island, so there couldn't have been any around then. I don't remember seeing any while we were on Cinnabar Island either, but I might have missed it. I could ask the others if they have seen any though.
I believe they might be. They seem to be appearing in areas that aren't normal for them to be in and are rather..insistent on getting close to people. It's rather strange behavior.
[Armin breathes out on a soft, thoughtful noise, his brows furrowing a bit.]
Jean and I did consider that Pokemon might be behind this. [Though they had been thinking of possible legendary Pokemon being the cause.] Have you seen them do anything except try and come close? Anything else that might be out of the ordinary?
I have heard that Drowzees have been stalking individuals during the night, staring in through windows and using their abilities from the sound of it. Several of the Phantumps we've encountered have tried to get close but my companions have been rather adamant about keeping them away. I am not entirely certain why but I think they're attempting to do something with their own abilities.
[Armin is pulling up a separate screen to do a quick Pokedex search on Drowzees as they speak. And once more he wishes the Pokedex was a bit more extensive. If he was in a proper library, he could pull down some books on them and get a more detailed background, but now he only has a few lines.]
Well, the Pokedex does say that Drowzees are known to eat people's dreams, but it also says they normally get sick from bad dreams. That seems at odds with the nightmares we've been having.
It does, yes, but perhaps the Phantumps are doing something that allows them to handle the influx of bad dreams. It's just a theory, I'm not sure if that's something the Phantumps are even capable of, but they are definitely working together with this venture--whatever it truly may be.
[He'll really have to keep an eye out for any Phantumps and Drowzees now. He hadn't really been paying attention to those --they had been on the water for most of their time, after all-- but whatever is happening right now is pretty unusual, so it is also worthwhile to keep unusual theories in mind.]
Are you near a city by any chance? A proper book might have more information on Phantum or Drowzee behaviour than the pokedex does. [And thus, might have something in there that could either confirm or deny this theory of Newt's] I'd check it myself, but we're still several days out from the next city with a library.
[And considering how tired they all are, they are not making their usual speedy progress.]
Unfortunately not. We're still on Mt. Moon at the moment.
[He paused before glancing at something--no someone--off screen.]
Perhaps I could have Salazar go and pick up a few books for me. If I called ahead to the town nearby and told them he was coming, I can't imagine it would be much of a problem.

Are you referring to the odd dreams?
[Newt frowns thoughtfully.]
It only started a week or so ago, I believe.

Are you having nightmares too?

[A worried look appears now.]
Are you? Having nightmares, that is.
no subject
I am. It wouldn't really be important normally, except it seems that a lot of people are having nightmares right now. More than usual.
no subject
[It was worrisome. And he had a feeling it was because of the recent influx in certain Pokemon.]
Have you had any encounters with a Drowzee as of late? Prior to the nightmares. Or a Phantump, for that matter.

[All of Newt's pokemon are very well behaved, after all.]
It's certainly worth a try.

I'll get Salazar on his way then and see what we can find. If we do find anything of note, I'll be in touch.

All right. Thank you. If we find out anything on our end, I'll be sure to let you know too.
